The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Coming to Plainfield Sept. 18–21

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall® will be in Plainfield from Friday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 21

 

About the memorial

The Traveling Wall is a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War and was created for those who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington to view the memorial there.

  • The wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. Made of reflective black granite, it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end.
  • More than 58,000 members of the military were killed while serving in Vietnam – their names are inscribed on the memorial.

 

How can I experience it?

  • The Charleston Pavilion at Hummel Park, located at 5373 S. C.R. 700 E. in Plainfield, will be the home of The Traveling Wall when it is here in September.
  • The memorial is free to all visitors.

 

How to help

While Duke Energy provided the funding to bring the memorial to Indiana, its “Together We Stand for Our Veterans” employee resource group is leading the charge for planning and logistics.

  • Many volunteers are needed to greet and guide visitors at the memorial, which will be open 24 hours a day.
  • Members of the public can email ERG_TWSIndiana@duke-energy.com to express their interest in volunteering.

About The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall® is part of the Vietnam and All Veterans of Brevard (VVB) located in Brevard County, Florida. The VVB is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed and incorporated in December of 1985. The VVB is grassroots, community-based organization. In addition to the memorial wall, the VVB offers a color guard and a rifle team to participate in local Florida events. The nonprofit also supports a transitional housing facility which helps veterans in getting back on their feet.
