North Salem, IN – September 24, 2026 – The newest addition to North Salem Town Park is officially complete and ready for the community to enjoy! The new North Salem pickleball court will officially be celebrated with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on Friday, September 25th.

The project was funded by a large gift from The North Salem State Bank and will be dedicated in honor of longtime North Salem residents Dick and Clara Thompson, who spent decades serving the community they called home.

Dick and Clara moved to North Salem in 1961, where they raised their family and became deeply involved in the community. Dick was a physics teacher at North Salem High School, then became the first principal of Tri-West High School in 1975 and later served as an Indiana state representative and state senator. He also served on the North Salem State Bank Board of Directors and was involved in numerous local and county organizations.

Clara was equally committed to the community, serving as an Eel River Township trustee and board member, while also giving her time to numerous community organizations including the Hendricks County Community Foundation, North Salem United Methodist Church and Ivy Tech Community College. She was also recognized as Hendricks County Citizen of the Year for her commitment to the community.
